What is energy modeling?

Energy modeling is an advanced process of creating a digital model of a building that allows simulating and predicting its energy efficiency and consumption. By utilizing this technology, we can analyze different usage scenarios and tailor solutions to minimize energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. In building energy modeling, we consider factors such as:

  • HVAC systems,
  • lighting,
  • electrical devices,
  • as well as internal and external conditions.

This allows for a comprehensive understanding of the impact of changes on the building’s total energy balance.

Building energy modeling is an advanced tool that can be used in the process of:

  • designing a facility – to optimize it (Decarbonization of the designed facility),
  • an existing facility – this is referred to as a digital twin,
  • optimizing installation size and hourly balancing, e.g., a photovoltaic installation compared to demand.

Energy modeling is crucial for optimizing buildings, especially in the context of new European regulations, such as CRREM standards and ESG compliance reporting requirements. Through precise simulations, companies can:

  • meet energy standards and prepare for future requirements, reducing the risk of penalties,

  • lower operational costs, which translates into greater financial efficiency.
